New Device for Law Enforcement

"It never ceases to amaze me, why it takes two, three, four, or more officers to take down one suspect that won't comply."  Perhaps a very offensive statement to those of us, who have, on occasion, have felt no other choice.  According to retired 25 year L.A. County Deputy Ron Teeters, who says, "Five years ago I would have never made a statement like that."

In lieu of all the negative public and media attention in recent years, Ron set out to devise a method or a tool that was undisputedly effective.  "Every weapon that we are carrying is either lethal, awkward to carry, ineffective, or easily taken away from us.  We needed something small, light weight and compact in order to be carried rather than left in a desk drawer or in the trunk of a patrol car.  It also had to require minimum training and cost, not to mention media and public friendly."  Ron originally intended this particular device for training in his martial arts studio.  But, because of the simplicity of its use, and potential misuse, soon realized this was the tool law enforcement needed to prevent many of the "scenes" we are accustomed to seeing, from ever happening again.

It's called the Control Stick.  Only 6 1/2 inches long, the Control Stick fits perfectly in the officer's hand with coned ends protruding slightly.  the technique utilized causes pain when applied; however, there are no striking blows for the cameral to catch.  There is no actual physical damage.  Proper use is non-lethal and requires little body strength, making the Control stick size and gender friendly.  The Control Stick is lightweight and stored easily in the utility belt.  The response has been tremendous but Ron says he's overwhelmed by the number of female officers, who have realized their true equality to their male counterparts.  "Unlike every other device we carry and because of the unique design the of the Control Stick an officer would almost have to give it to a perpetrator rather than the perpetrator taking it away from the officer.  I believe this will drastically reduce public liability as well as officer related injuries."

Ron Teeters is a Master in the art of Kung Fu San Soo.  He has been teaching defensive tactics for the past 20 years.  Ron has trained various elite military groups as well as law enforcement agencies worldwide.  Ron's schedule is taking him to the United Kingdom, South Africa and Washington, DC.
